The only cost effective meathod of removing Japanese Knotweed is systematically chop down (below) and spray new growth with pesticide upto 4 times a year for a number of years until regrowth ceases.
- Failure
to manage and dispose of Japanese Knotweed responsibly may lead to
prosecution. (schedule 9, section 14 wildlife & countryside act,
1981)
- Spreading Japanese Knotweed is harmfull to native plants and
animals.
- Failure to manage Japanese Knotweed on a development site
may result in eventual structural damage, especially to tarmac surfaces.
- The Environment Agency will need to be informed if Japanese Knotweed
is found close to water courses.
- Any waste material containing Japanese
Knotweed is classed as "Controlled Waste" and therefore the Environmental
Protection (Duty of Care) Regulations 1990 section 34 apply.
